Operator services: a connection made for devices, not for people
Why automation needs its own connection
Building automation is often connected to the housing company's broadband or to the maintenance company's mobile dongle. Then an alarm fails to come through when the router is restarted, the subscription is changed or nobody remembers whose name it is in. A dedicated machine connection removes these breaks: the connection exists only for the automation, it is documented, and its functioning is monitored in the same system as the rest of the technology.
What the service includes
- The connection. A mobile or broadband connection according to the building and the need. Mobile when the building has no fixed connection or it is not to be shared; broadband when there is a lot of data traffic.
- A configured modem. We deliver the modem with its settings ready and name it so that the building is identified correctly on the server.
- A closed VPN connection. Traffic runs in a VPN tunnel separated from the public internet, and the automation cannot be reached directly from the network.
- Monitoring. A break in the connection appears in our monitoring as an alarm, and the connection is restored before it prevents other alarms from getting through.
What a machine connection is used for
- remote monitoring and remote control of building automation
- forwarding of alarms to monitoring
- remote connections for heat pumps, air handling units and frequency converters
- remote reading of consumption meters
- devices from other suppliers that need a reliable connection but not their own operator contract
Who we serve
For a housing company whose automation is connected to a network whose owner nobody knows.
For a maintenance company with dozens of buildings and just as many mobile dongles.
For a device supplier who needs a connection to the building but does not want to administer subscriptions.
For a property owner whose buildings have no fixed connection.
Frequently asked questions
Can the connection be ordered without HK-Säätö's other services?
Yes. The connection and a configured modem are also delivered as a single service, for example for automation installed by another supplier.
What does the connection cost?
The connection has a monthly fee that depends on the type of connection and the amount of data traffic, plus a one-off fee for the modem and its configuration.
What happens if the connection is cut?
The break appears in our monitoring as an alarm. On a mobile connection it usually recovers by itself; if it does not, we restore it remotely or replace the modem. The automation continues to control the building locally during the break as well — only the remote connection and the forwarding of alarms are unavailable.
Is the connection secure?
The connection is built with VPN technology: traffic is separated from the public internet, and the automation can only be reached through our monitoring. The building has no open ports to the network.
